Yuko Hair Straightening was created in Japan in 1996 by Yuko Yamashita, a hair stylist and salon owner who wanted to make people's lives easier when it came to hair care.
As a young Japanese stylist, Yuko met countless women who were unhappy with their hair. The most common complaint was unruly hair that had to be constantly styled every morning and the mere suggestion of rain would make it frizzy and uncontrollable. Yuko wanted her customers to have beautiful, healthy hair without spending hours getting it that way, so she approached a Japanese sports, health and beauty company called Phiten. She worked hand in hand with Phiten to create Yuko Hair Straightening, which has been taking the world by storm for over 10 years.

This special straightening process utilises collagen, keratin and silk proteins which penetrate the hair follicle. A hot iron promotes heat oxidisation to leave hair smooth, radiant and manageable with minimal effort. Yuko is the original and leading hair straightening system. It has even been granted a patent in the United States.

In Japan Yuko Hair Straightening is used in over 35,000 salons. It has also spread across the world and there are now more than 600 salons in the UK using it simply because it provides the best possible base for your hair. It creates truly healthy looking hair and provides an ideal foundation for any style.
YUKO provides professional products as well as education and training to hair stylists from all over the world. Our aim is to deliver truly beautiful hair through exceptional service.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What types of hair can be straightened using YUKO?
A: Most hair types are suitable although Afro-Carribean hair may not be. It is advisable to have a consultation with the stylist performing the straightening beforehand. They will be able to tell you if the straightening is suitable for your hair.
Q: Is coloured hair suitable for YUKO straightening?
A: Generally yes it is. We recommend that if hair is going to be coloured, it is done at least two weeks before or two weeks after the straightening is done. Highlighted hair may or may not be suitable. In any case the condition of the hair should be assessed by a stylist before the straightening is done.
Q: How often should I have the straightening done?
A: The average time between straightening treatments is 4 - 9 months. Hair texture and speed of growth amongst other factors will determine how often you should have your hair straightened.
Q: How long does YUKO straightening take?
A: Usually between 3 - 4 hours but very long or dense hair may take longer.
Q: Will I still have to blow dry my hair?
A: After having YUKO straightening you will be able to 'wash and go'. Once re-growth occurs you may find it necessary to style the new growth.
Q: Is there anything I shouldn't do with my hair after the straightening?
A: For 48 hours after having the straightening done you should avoid doing anything with your hair that you would not want to remain there, e.g. crimps from rubber bands, clips and hats. You should not wash your hair for the first 48 hours after the straightening. You should not colour your hair for at least 2 weeks after having the straightening done.
Q: Do I have to use special products afterwards?
A: We recommend the use of YUKO home care products. They have been designed for use after straightening to maintain the condition of your hair.
Q: How much is YUKO straightening?
A: Prices vary 140 up to 240.
